Professional and Special Interest Organizations
American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) AMWA is an organization of 10,000 women physicians and medical students dedicated to serving as the voice for women's health and the advancement of women in medicine. AMWA functions at the local, national, and international levels with programs that provide and develop leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring, and strategic alliances.
American Public Health Association represents >30,000 health professionals working in public health, including >1500 involved working in IH activities. Student memberships are available and the annual fall meeting provides an excellent opportunity to learn about public health and international health.
Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) sponsors many IH activities and provides links with Canadian and international websites. CSIH is also the Technical Representative in Canada for the Pan American Health Organization.
Global Health Council (formerly the National Council for IH) provides access to the many activities of the largest U.S.-based membership organization concerned with IH, and includes information on IH career opportunities, jobs, advocacy, and links to other IH-related programs.
Physicians for Human Rights, an organization of health professionals, scientists, and concerned citizens, uses the knowledge and skills of the medical and forensic sciences to investigate and prevent violations of international human rights and humanitarian law.
